Jean René, més conegut com JR, és el fotògraf amb la galeria d’art més gran del món: el carrer. En aquest documental, JR i Agnès Varda recorren la França rural en una furgoneta dotada d’una gran impressora. Al llarg d’aquest viatge, van retratant els rostres dels locals i pegant-los en façanes i altres construccions. A vegades representant una idea o missatge concret i a vegades amb l’únic, però important, propòsit de posar a les persones en primera línia, fer-les protagonistes. Com a resultat, va sortir una emotiva, personal i interessant pel·lícula que va ser nominada a premis de la talla dels Oscar o els Cessar i va participar amb èxit en festivals internacionals, destacant la seva estrena a Cannes, on va ser premiada amb l’oeil d’or a millor documental en 2017.

Més enllà d’aquest, JR ha estrenat posteriorment altres documentals que continuen en aquesta línia, quant a l’objectiu últim es refereix.
